Vinícius Júnior Red Card Deepens Real Madrid’s Dispute With Referees

According to a report by Madrid Universal on Sunday October 11, 2026, Real Madrid’s frustration with refereeing decisions has reportedly increased following their 1-0 victory over Villarreal, with Vinícius Júnior’s red card becoming the latest source of controversy.

According to reports, tensions are growing among the players and within the club’s hierarchy over the performance of referee Isidro Díaz de Mera and his assistants during Saturday’s encounter.

Although Real Madrid secured all three points, the Brazilian forward’s dismissal has overshadowed the result and reignited the club’s concerns about the consistency of officiating in La Liga.

Vinícius has reportedly received support from his teammates and the club following the incident that led to his sending-off.

The Brazilian’s explanation is understood to be that the hair-pulling incident was accidental rather than a deliberate attempt to target his opponent. Real Madrid reportedly consider his account credible.

However, the controversy has continued to attract attention, with the decision raising questions among supporters about how similar incidents are handled by match officials.

Real Madrid’s concerns reportedly extend beyond Vinícius’ dismissal. The club is also unhappy with several decisions involving free-kicks and disciplinary action during recent matches.

According to the report, comparisons with incidents involving Kang-in Lee and Cristian Romero during the Madrid derby have added to the frustration, with the club questioning whether similar situations are being judged consistently.

Real Madrid’s relationship with Spain’s Technical Committee of Referees has already been strained, and the latest incident appears to have added another layer to the ongoing dispute.

For now, the club’s reported anger remains focused on what it sees as inconsistent officiating. While Real Madrid celebrated a narrow win over Villarreal, the controversy surrounding Vinícius’ red card has ensured that refereeing decisions remain firmly in the spotlight.
