Vinicius Camp Questions Refereeing Consistency After Red Card:‘They forgot the rule against Valencia
According to a report by Madrid Universal on Sunday October 11, 2026, Vinicius Junior’s representatives have admitted that the Real Madrid forward deserved his red card against Villarreal while questioning the consistency of refereeing decisions involving the Brazilian.
The winger was dismissed shortly after coming on as a substitute during Real Madrid’s 1-0 victory after pulling Nathan Saliba’s hair during an incident that led to a disallowed goal.
According to reports, Vinicius’ camp accepts that the referee made the correct decision. However, they believe a similar incident involving the forward during Real Madrid’s meeting with Valencia in January 2025 was handled differently.
A source close to the Brazilian expressed frustration over the apparent inconsistency. “The red card is fair, but they forgot the rule against Valencia,” the source said.
During the 2025 encounter, Valencia goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski appeared to pull Vinicius’ hair. The Brazilian was subsequently sent off for pushing the goalkeeper, prompting questions from his representatives about the differing disciplinary decisions.
Vinicius reacted angrily to his dismissal against Villarreal and required intervention from his teammates. He later apologised to the club and its supporters through Instagram.
“The joy continues. My apologies to my team and the fans,” he wrote.
However, the forward also reshared a social media post highlighting decisions that have gone against him, suggesting that his frustration with refereeing remains unresolved.
Real Madrid secured an important victory through Yan Diomande’s first goal for the club. However, Vinicius’ dismissal overshadowed the result, leaving Jose Mourinho facing the challenge of managing without one of his key attackers for upcoming matches.
Mourinho also received a yellow card for protesting against the officials, while some supporters directed hostile chants towards the refereeing team. The Portuguese manager subsequently skipped his customary post-match press conference to avoid risking a suspension ahead of the Sevilla and Barcelona fixtures.
Real Madrid remain six points behind Barcelona, and Vinicius’ absence could prove costly during the upcoming El Clasico. Diomande has strengthened his case for more playing time, while Vinicius must learn to manage his emotions more effectively.
