Trump To Ukraine: ‘Get A New Leader Who Can Make A Deal,’ Says War Could Have Been Avoided

According to a report by Fox News, on Sunday October 11, 2026, President Donald Trump has escalated his criticism of Ukrainian leadership, explicitly suggesting that Ukraine should elect a new president and claiming that the ongoing conflict with Russia could have been avoided entirely under his administration.

In recent remarks discussing the war’s mounting casualties and territorial losses, Trump argued that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has repeatedly failed to secure a negotiated settlement.

“You know what I suggest, I suggest they get a new leader who can make a deal because he could have made many deals and for some reason he never does and let me go a step further. If I were president, you wouldn’t have ever had that war. That war would have never started. There was no reason that that war with Ukraine and Russia started. It started due to incompetence. Should have never started.”

Trump pointed to the severe human cost and loss of territory as evidence of failed diplomacy, contending that the scale of destruction makes a change in leadership imperative for the country’s future.

“You wouldn’t have lost 30% of your country already. You’ve lost 30% of your country and you’ve had over a million people killed, between the two of them over two million people killed. That’s a war that should have never started and I think it’s time for Ukraine to get a new president.”
