Today’s Headlines: Why Tinubu May Lose 2027 Election-Ayodele, 12 killed, 309 Injured In Saudi Attack

Primate Elijah Ayodele, head of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church in Oke-Afa, Lagos, has raised concerns about President Bola Tinubu’s chances in the 2027 presidential election, identifying a possible runoff as one scenario that could work against the incumbent.

The cleric also predicted that the election could be affected by a possible state of emergency, which he suggested might interrupt the normal electoral process. He further expressed uncertainty about Vice-President Kashim Shettima’s political future and called on Tinubu and members of his family to seek divine intervention.

Ayodele made the statements in a video circulating on social media on Sunday. He cautioned Tinubu that a second round of voting could prove unfavourable to him, stressing that the outcome of the election could depend on how events unfold. His comments represent his personal predictions about the forthcoming poll.

An attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, has reportedly left 12 people dead and 309 others injured, according to information attributed to the country’s General Authority of Civil Aviation. The incident was described as the third reported attack on the airport within a week.

The Saudi Gazette reported on Sunday that the incident took place on Saturday, October 10. Among those reported killed were four Saudi citizens, two Bangladeshi nationals and citizens of the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine and Sudan.

The aviation authority said those injured had been transferred to hospitals for medical attention, with some reportedly in critical condition. Airport infrastructure was also damaged during the incident. Authorities said assessments were continuing to establish the full extent of the destruction.

Amnesty International Nigeria has called on FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to halt proposed demolition work around a utility corridor in Maitama, Abuja, until questions surrounding the area’s allocation for private property development have been properly examined.

The organisation also asked the Federal Capital Development Authority and other relevant agencies to investigate the reported allocation of Plot 5334 in Cadastral Zone A06. It raised concerns about the potential consequences for public safety, drainage systems and the risk of flooding if critical infrastructure were affected.

Isa Sanusi, Executive Director of Amnesty International Nigeria, made the appeal in a statement released on Sunday. He warned that carrying out demolition activities before outstanding legal and technical questions had been resolved could endanger nearby buildings and public facilities. The organisation called for a review before any action that could affect the corridor proceeds.

Former African Development Bank Group President, Dr Akinwumi Adesina, has called on African governments to accelerate industrial development, embrace technological innovation and promote responsible leadership as part of efforts to improve the continent’s standing in the global economy.

Adesina argued that African countries should reduce their dependence on exporting unprocessed natural resources by investing in local manufacturing, adding value to raw materials and developing industries capable of competing internationally. He said the continent needed to make better use of its economic potential rather than rely primarily on commodity exports.

He delivered the message on Saturday in Johannesburg, South Africa, during the BPI Iconic Awards, where he presented a keynote address titled “Africa’s Next Leap: Visionary and Ethical Leadership for an Integrated and Prosperous Africa in the Global Economy.” In a statement issued by his media team on Sunday, Adesina identified Africa’s young population, natural wealth and growing markets as important assets that could support long-term prosperity if effectively managed.
