Today’s Headlines: Don’t Build Refinery Yet — Kenyan Candidate; Trump on Ukraine
Kenyan presidential candidate Patrick Osoi has urged Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote not to rush the proposed refinery project in Kenya, declaring that he would rely on local investors to undertake the project if elected president next year.
Osoi made the remarks while addressing supporters at a Lions Movement event, where he argued that Kenya had business people capable of establishing a refinery without depending on the Nigerian industrialist.
“I want to tell Aliko Dangote, please don’t rush to start the refinery because, when I’m sworn in as President of Kenya next year, you will be heading back to Nigeria,” he said.
“We Kenyans have business people who can start the refinery. We also have business people in this country who can do that job. This is what we stand for. This is the home of all movements,” Osoi added.
US President Donald Trump has called for Ukraine to elect a new president, accusing Volodymyr Zelensky of repeatedly rejecting opportunities to reach a deal to end the war with Russia.
Speaking at the White House on Saturday, Trump said Zelensky had failed to take advantage of opportunities to negotiate an end to the conflict, which began with Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
“Zelensky could have settled this war many times, and he chose not to. It’s very difficult,” Trump told reporters, insisting that the war would not have started if he had been president when Russia invaded.

Nearly 500,000 children in the Philippines were trafficked to produce child sexual exploitation material in 2022, with foreign demand helping to fuel the crime, a 2023 study by the International Justice Mission and the University of Nottingham Rights Lab estimated.
A CNN report published on Sunday revealed how children were reportedly forced by family members and other facilitators to produce sexual content for foreign customers, particularly men in the United States, who pay to watch their abuse through livestreams and private online groups.
According to CNN, figures from the Philippine Anti-Money Laundering Council showed that the United States was the leading buyer of child sexual abuse material produced in the Philippines between 2015 and 2023.
