Man Utd Are Reportedly Interested in Signing £50m Star In January After Failed Summer Move
According to a report by Football Transfer on Sunday October 11, 2026, Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Atletico Madrid forward Giuliano Simeone after failing to secure his services during the summer transfer window. The Red Devils continue monitoring the Argentine ahead of potential future negotiations.
According to reports, Manchester United, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur explored signing the 23-year-old. However, Atletico Madrid rejected approaches because of Simeone’s importance to the team and their plans for the current season.
Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi reportedly admires Simeone, while both Manchester clubs continue monitoring his situation. The interested teams could reconsider their approaches if Atletico change their position before the January 2027 transfer window.
Simeone has registered two goals and two assists in eight La Liga appearances this season. He has also started seven of Atletico Madrid’s nine matches across all competitions, highlighting his importance within Diego Simeone’s squad.
The Argentina international, who is the son of Atletico manager Diego Simeone, signed a four-year contract in January. His current agreement runs until 2030, strengthening Atletico Madrid’s negotiating position ahead of potential transfer discussions.
Despite their interest in Simeone, Manchester United’s primary recruitment priority for 2027 is reportedly strengthening their defence. A new left-back remains high on their wishlist following their unsuccessful summer pursuit of Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall.
The Red Devils are also expected to explore potential signings at right-back and centre-back as Michael Carrick continues reshaping his squad. Recruiting a centre-forward could become another priority if United successfully offload Joshua Zirkzee.
The Netherlands striker attracted interest from several Serie A clubs during the summer, but United failed to complete his departure. Meanwhile, Bruno Fernandes’ uncertain future could force the club to seek another attacking midfielder if he leaves Old Trafford.
