Tchouameni Questions Refereeing Decisions After Real Madrid 1-0 Villarreal

According to a report by Madrid Universal on Sunday October 11, 2026, Aurelien Tchouameni has criticised the refereeing decisions following Real Madrid’s 1-0 victory over Villarreal in La Liga, expressing confusion over the officials’ handling of several incidents during the encounter.

The French midfielder was particularly unhappy with the straight red card shown to his teammate Vinicius Junior, who was dismissed after pulling Villarreal defender Nathan Saliba’s hair during the match.

Vinicius also had a goal disallowed after the referee penalised him for pulling Saliba’s hair during the build-up. The Brazilian was subsequently sent off, sparking further frustration among Real Madrid players.

Speaking to Real Madrid TV after the final whistle, Tchouameni openly questioned the decision, saying: “I do not understand what is happening with the referees. I do not understand that red card.”

Despite his disappointment with the officiating, the midfielder was satisfied with Madrid’s victory and acknowledged the challenge presented by Villarreal, whom he described as a strong opponent.

“I’m happy with the victory because we know Villarreal is a great team. We can certainly improve, but after a three-week international break, it’s not easy. Today, the most important thing is the win,” Tchouameni explained.

The result also continued Real Madrid’s unbeaten home record this season. Tchouameni praised the supporters’ contribution and stressed the importance of maintaining their impressive performances at the Santiago Bernabeu.

“I’m sure it’s easier to win the game with the support of the stadium. It’s our home and we have to keep winning here,” the French international added.

He also urged his teammates to build on the important result, insisting that securing three points was crucial as the club prepares for its upcoming fixtures.

Real Madrid will next face AS Roma in the second round of the Champions League. Tchouameni emphasised that the team must continue its positive start to the European competition by targeting another victory.

“We have started in the best possible way in the Champions League and we have to go to Rome to win the game,” he declared.

The Villarreal match was particularly memorable for Tchouameni, who reached 200 appearances for Real Madrid. Reflecting on the milestone, he expressed gratitude to the club, its president and the supporters.

“It’s a dream to be here every day. I want to thank the fans, the president, and the club. Here’s to more matches and more victories,” he concluded.
