Super Eagles Star Wins Player of the Match Award After Masterclass Performance for Club
According to a report by Birmingham Live on Saturday, October 10, Super Eagles defender Bright Osayi-Samuel has won the Player of the Match award after an impressive display for Birmingham City in their 1-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion in the English Championship on Saturday.
The Nigerian right-back started the West Midlands derby at The Hawthorns and played the full 90 minutes as Birmingham secured a valuable away win against their local rivals.
Osayi-Samuel played his part in helping Birmingham keep a clean sheet, with his defensive work contributing to a hard-fought victory.
His performance earned him the Player of the Match award.
Birmingham had an early opportunity to take the lead when Jay Stansfield’s close-range effort was saved by West Brom goalkeeper Max O’Leary.
The hosts also threatened, with Aune Heggebø hitting the post, but neither side could find the net during the opening stages.
The breakthrough came in the 41st minute when August Priske converted a penalty after Nathaniel Phillips fouled him inside the box.
Birmingham took their lead into half-time and had to work hard to protect it after the restart, with West Brom pushing for an equalizer.
The visitors remained organized at the back and held on until the final whistle to claim all three points.
Birmingham also created chances to extend their advantage but were unable to add to their tally.
Osayi-Samuel completed the match despite receiving a yellow card in the 89th minute.
The Nigerian defender recorded 11 recoveries, three clearances, and five ground duels won during the encounter.
The result gave Birmingham a significant boost in the Championship standings, allowing them to move above West Brom following the derby victory.
Osayi-Samuel joined Birmingham City in July 2025 after leaving Turkish club Fenerbahçe.
The defender previously played for Queens Park Rangers in England before moving to Turkey, where he established himself as a regular in Fenerbahçe’s squad.
His performance against West Brom will be encouraging for the Nigerian international as he continues to build his career with Birmingham and compete for a place in the Super Eagles squad.
