Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior could be at risk of missing the next El Clásico after his red card and the referee’s report described his conduct following the dismissal as “aggressive”.
The development was reported by football transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, who shared the referee’s account of the incident, including the Brazilian’s reaction after being sent off.
According to the referee’s report, Vinicius continued protesting the decision after receiving his marching orders and moved towards the official while shouting, prompting his teammates to restrain him.
“Vinicius, after having been sent off and still on the pitch, continued protesting my decision, shouting LOUDLY, heading toward the area where I was with an AGGRESSIVE attitude, having to be RESTRAINED by teammates, without being able to understand any specific expression”.
The incident occurred during Real Madrid’s 1-0 victory over Villarreal on Saturday, with Vinicius sent off in the second half after a VAR review showed he had pulled Villarreal defender Nathan Saliba’s hair. His subsequent goal was disallowed following the review.
Vinicius, who came on as a substitute in the 52nd minute, was dismissed around 20 minutes later, leaving Real Madrid to see out the match with 10 men. Yan Diomande scored the only goal of the encounter.
Under Spanish football regulations, pulling an opponent’s hair is considered violent conduct and can attract a suspension of between one and three matches. The final punishment will determine whether the Brazilian forward misses Real Madrid’s upcoming El Clásico against Barcelona on October 25.
The referee’s report could also influence the disciplinary decision, as it records Vinicius’s conduct after the dismissal. However, the official stated that he could not make out any specific expression from the player.
