Pantami Breaks Silence As INEC Omits His Name From Gombe Governorship Candidates List

According to Vanguard News reports, former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Pantami, has appealed to his supporters to remain calm following the omission of his name from the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) final list of candidates for the 2027 Gombe State governorship election.

Pantami, who defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in May, was reportedly missing from the list released by INEC on Saturday.

The development has raised concerns among his supporters and members of the Pantamiyya Movement, who had expected him to be included among the candidates contesting the governorship election.

In a statement shared on his social media platforms, Pantami’s camp described the situation as a temporary electoral challenge and assured supporters that efforts were underway to address the issue.

The statement, signed by Professor Suleiman Mohammed Gombe, acknowledged the concerns expressed by PDP supporters and members of the movement both within and outside Gombe State.

According to the statement, Pantami’s legal and liaison teams are engaging relevant PDP officials and INEC to seek compliance with a court order and secure the correction of the omission within the period allowed by law.

The camp expressed confidence that the matter could still be resolved, urging supporters not to lose hope over the publication of the final candidates’ list.

“We are aware of the people working behind the scenes to frustrate good and responsible leadership in Gombe State,” the statement said.

The statement further encouraged supporters to remain committed to their political activities and continue mobilising while the legal and administrative efforts to resolve the matter proceed.

It also reaffirmed the relationship between the PDP and the Pantamiyya Movement, stating that both remained committed to the political aspirations of their supporters in the state.

“No distraction will derail our course, in sha Allah,” the statement added.

Pantami’s camp maintained that the omission had not brought the matter to a final conclusion, expressing hope that the relevant authorities would address the situation.

The development comes amid preparations for the 2027 general elections, as political parties and aspirants continue to monitor INEC’s published candidates’ lists and address issues arising from the electoral process.
