“Our Own People Receive Us With Insults and Hate” — Jennifer Oppong Fires NPP After NDC Welcome PY
US-based New Patriotic Party (NPP) member and political commentator Jennifer Oppong has commended members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the respect and affection they showed Paul Kwabena Yandoh during a baby-cleansing ceremony organised for the child of Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Frank Amoakohene.
In a Facebook post published on Saturday, October 10, 2026, Oppong expressed admiration for the warm reception Yandoh received from NDC members at the gathering. She suggested that their conduct demonstrated how kindness and respect could influence people’s perceptions of a political party.
Oppong contrasted the reception with what she described as hostility within her own party, arguing that some NPP members direct insults and hatred towards fellow members rather than offering encouragement and support.
She wrote, “You see how the NDC members received Paul Kwabena Yandoh with so much respect and love, that’s how they have captured our hearts oooo. Our own people receive us with insults and hate.”
Her remarks have renewed discussions about the importance of mutual respect, tolerance and unity within Ghana’s political environment. They also highlight how the treatment of individuals can shape public opinion about political organisations.
Yandoh is associated with the NPP, while Dr Amoakohene belongs to the governing NDC. Despite their different political affiliations, their friendly relationship has attracted public interest and provided an example of how personal connections can exist beyond party divisions.
A report published by Citi Newsroom in August 2026 also highlighted the relationship between the two politicians, presenting it as an illustration of how political opponents can maintain cordial relationships despite their differences.
Oppong’s comments further draw attention to relationships within the NPP, particularly the need for members to demonstrate respect and solidarity towards one another.
The episode also underscores the broader role of political conduct in shaping public perceptions. While disagreements between parties remain a feature of democratic competition, displays of friendship and tolerance can encourage healthier interactions among politicians and their supporters.
Her observations therefore contribute to an ongoing conversation about political unity, personal relationships and the need to separate partisan differences from mutual respect in Ghana.
