ODM MP Forced To Flee Nairobi Event As Youths Stone His Vehicle After Statement On Sifuna

Ruaraka Member of Parliament TJ Kajwang was forced to leave a Nairobi gathering after angry youths reportedly pelted his vehicle with stones following remarks about Senator Edwin Sifuna’s chances of becoming Kenya’s president in 2027.

According to a video circulating online, tensions erupted when Kajwang allegedly told the crowd that Sifuna could not defeat President William Ruto in the next General Election.

The legislator also reportedly defended the broad-based arrangement between ODM and Ruto’s administration, arguing that the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga had left the party committed to the political arrangement.

His remarks appeared to anger some of the youths, who reportedly demanded that he respect Sifuna, whom they consider a key figure in the emerging political movement challenging ODM’s current direction.

The situation escalated as the crowd disrupted Kajwang’s address before some individuals allegedly began throwing stones and other objects at his vehicle. The MP was subsequently seen leaving the scene as tension mounted.

The incident highlights growing divisions within ODM over the party’s relationship with Ruto’s administration and the political future of its leaders following Raila’s death.

Sifuna has increasingly attracted attention among supporters opposed to the broad-based arrangement, with debates intensifying over his political ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections.

The confrontation has also triggered debate on social media, with some Kenyans condemning the reported violence and calling for political tolerance, while others pointed to growing dissatisfaction among sections of ODM supporters.

Police had also not issued a statement confirming whether investigations into the incident had commenced.
