List Of 2027 Presidential Candidates Has Been Released, Details Emerged
According to Vanguard News reports, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published a list of 18 presidential candidates and their running mates for the 2027 general elections.
The list, signed by INEC Secretary Rose Oriaran-Anthony, reportedly includes President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Other prominent names on the list include Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, representing the Allied Peoples Movement (APM); Sandy Ojang Onor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); and former Cross River State Governor Donald Duke of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).
The commission also listed Rufai Adekunle Omo-Aje of the Action Alliance, Abbas-Bin Aliyu of the Action Democratic Party, Yusuf Kabiru of the Action Peoples Party and Omoyele Sowore of the African Action Congress.
Other presidential candidates are Sunday Adenuga of the Boot Party, Adebisi Olusoji of the Democratic Labour Alliance, Sunday Okereke of the Labour Party, Adewole Adebayo of the Social Democratic Party, Peter Agada of the Young Progressive Party and Nwanyanwu Daberechukwu of the Zenith Labour Party.
The list also features two female presidential candidates: Ada Elizabeth Frederick Okwori of the National Democratic Party and Nkem Esther Okereke of the National Rescue Movement.
Meanwhile, four women have reportedly been named as running mates. They are Peace Egobia of the Action Peoples Party, Nafisat Usaku of the Democratic Labour Alliance, Hajja Konto of the Labour Party and Patience Key of the Young Progressive Party.
According to the details published by INEC, the presidential candidates range in age from 35 to 79, while their running mates are between 35 and 80 years old.
The publication of the list marks another development in preparations for the 2027 general elections, with political parties and their candidates expected to intensify activities ahead of the polls.
However, the reported list and the eligibility of the candidates remain matters that voters and other stakeholders will be watching as the electoral process progresses.
