2027: NDC Rejects INEC’s Final List, Accuses FG Over Gwarzo And Kwankwaso Omission

According to a report by The Guardian on Sunday, October 11, 2026, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed profound disappointment following the unexpected omission of its Kano State governorship candidate, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, and his running mate, Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso, from the final list of candidates released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2027 general election.

The exclusion of Gwarzo—a former deputy governor and close ally of the Kwankwasiyya leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso—alongside his running mate, who is the eldest son of the movement’s leader, has sparked sharp reactions across the political landscape.

Reacting to the development, Kano State NDC Chairman, Hon. Husaini Mairiga, accused the Federal Government of putting intense pressure on the electoral umpire to frustrate the party’s chances in the state.

Mairiga maintained that the party fulfilled all statutory requirements and warned INEC to protect its institutional independence.

“We feel very bad and disappointed over the omission of our candidates’ names from INEC’s list, but I can assure you that the party will go the extra mile to ensure their names are restored on INEC’s website,” Mairiga stated.

Meanwhile, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano dismissed the outcry, claiming the omission may not be unconnected to earlier red flags raised over alleged document discrepancies.

APC spokesperson Auwalu Soja pointed out that concerns were previously raised regarding mismatches in the candidate’s date of birth and National Youth Service Corps records.

Despite the setback, the opposition leadership has assured supporters of its readiness to explore lawful avenues to restore the names to the ballot before campaigns kick off.
