In Kaduna State, we have been working very hard- not just in Kaduna State, but across the entire North for the election of our party’s presidential flag bearer.

The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has urged Muslims throughout Nigeria to participate in the search for the new crescent moon marking the beginning of Jumadal Ula 1448 AH.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued by Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu, Chairman of the Sultanate Council’s Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, through the Wazirin Sokoto. The directive highlights the role of moon sighting in determining the start of months and important dates in the Islamic calendar.

According to the statement, Sunday, October 11, 2026, falls on the 29th day of Rabi’us Thani 1448 AH and has been set aside for the nationwide exercise. The outcome of the crescent observation will help establish when Jumadal Ula, the fifth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, begins.

A former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Edo State, Chief Dan Orbih, has been interred in his Ogbona country home, Estako Central Local Government Area of the state.

Chief Orbih, who was also the Chairman of the Governing Council of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, died on August 30th in a London hospital at the age of 64.

Our correspondent on Saturday reported that he was buried at a private ceremony attended by family members and selected friends on October 9.

In his homily, Archbishop of Auchi Diocese, Bishop Amos Dunia, urged the congregation to be steadfast in their belief in Christ.

He said the late Orbih has ended his race on earth and urged the people to amend their ways and obey the dictates of God so that they would not be taken unaware.

Twelve people have been killed and 309 others injured in an attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the third reported attack on the facility in a week, according to the country’s General Authority of Civil Aviation.

The Saudi Gazette, an English-language newspaper, citing the civil aviation authority, reported on Sunday that the attack occurred on Saturday, October 10.

The fatalities included four Saudi nationals, two Bangladeshis and one national each from the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine and Sudan.

The authority said all the injured had been taken to hospitals for treatment, adding that some were in critical condition.

It also disclosed that the attack caused damage to airport facilities, with assessments ongoing to determine the extent of the damage.
