Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has said that the people of the province welcome the presidential proclamation, adding that residents want peace, stability, progress and prosperity.

In a video statement, Kundi said the people had decided they would no longer support what he described as Fitna-ul-Khawarij, a term used by Pakistani authorities for terrorist elements.

He said residents would stand shoulder-to-shoulder with security agencies in the fight against terrorism and work towards a peaceful and prosperous future for the province.

The governor said the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa wanted to move away from chaos and unrest and build friendly relations and mutual cooperation with other provinces.

He added that residents sought development and prosperity through shared experiences and joint efforts, with the benefits of progress reaching ordinary citizens.

Kundi also stressed the importance of promoting democratic values, saying the people of the province were peace-loving and did not support terrorism or acts of violence.

Kundi urged the public to refrain from lawlessness, incitement and rioting, warning that strict legal action would be taken against those who disrupted law and order or took the law into their own hands.

His remarks come amid discussions over emergency measures in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following concerns about the province’s security situation and rising terrorist attacks.

Earlier, President Asif Ali Zardari reportedly signed a summary for imposing a state of emergency and Governor’s Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following approval by the federal cabinet.

The proposed measures were aimed at addressing the deteriorating security situation and an increase in terrorist attacks in the province.

The proposal reportedly invokes Articles 232 and 234 of the Constitution, which provide for emergency provisions and certain powers concerning provincial governance under specified circumstances.

The Presidency cited an escalation in terrorist activity, including attacks on government installations, infrastructure and law enforcement agencies, as reasons for the proposed measures.
