KP backs emergency imposition to restore peace, fight terrorism: Governor Kundi

In a special message to the citizens of the province, the Governor emphasized that the people of KP desire peace, stability, development, and prosperity.

He added that the people of KP have resolved to no longer tolerate Fitna al-Khawarij and will stand shoulder to shoulder with the security forces in the fight against terrorism until their final breath.

Governor Kundi highlighted that the people of KP seek brotherly relations with other provinces and desire shared progress and economic advancement through mutual coordination and joint efforts.

He further noted that citizens want democratic values to flourish and the benefits of development to reach the common man.

Reaffirming that the people of KP are peace-loving and firmly oppose terrorism and violence, the Governor urged the public to avoid riots, lawbreaking, and provocations. He warned that strict action would be taken against anyone taking the law into their own hands or disrupting public order.

Following approval of President Asif Ali Zardari, Governor’s rule and emergency have been enforced in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) to maintain law and order.

As per details, the president has signed the summary for the imposition of an emergency and Governor’s Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under Articles 232 and 234 of the Constitution.

The summary was signed on the advice of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The presidential proclamation has cited an extraordinary surge in terrorist incidents and serious security threats as grounds for taking emergency constitutional measures in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to the proclamation, terrorist attacks on government installations and law enforcement agencies have increased, posing serious risks to security and public order.

The declaration states that the provincial government has failed to take adequate measures to address terrorism and lawlessness.

It further refers to the governor’s report, which reportedly highlighted disruptions in the constitutional system and alleged that the provincial government was not functioning in accordance with the Constitution.

In view of what it described as a serious emergency situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, President Asif Ali Zardari considered immediate constitutional action necessary, according to the proclamation.

The presidential proclamation was issued under Articles 232(1) and 234(1) of the Constitution, the official statement said.

The proclamation further states that the provincial government cannot be run in accordance with the Constitution under the prevailing circumstances.

The stated grounds for the measures include escalating terrorist incidents, attacks on government installations and law enforcement agencies, and concerns raised in the governor’s report regarding the functioning of the provincial government.
