INEC List: Don’t Waste Your Money In Court, Shehu Sani Tells Affected
Candidates

According to a report by The Daily Trust on Sunday, October 11, 2026, former Senator Shehu Sani has strongly advised political candidates omitted from the Independent National Electoral Commission’s final lists for the 2027 elections to steer clear of the courts, declaring that pursuing legal action is a waste of scarce resources.

The warning follows INEC’s release of its official candidate roster, which left out several prominent political heavyweights.

Notable figures missing from the publications include former Communications Minister Isah Ali Pantami (Gombe State), Ladi Adebutu (Ogun State PDP), and Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo (Kano State NDC).

The exclusion of these key actors stems from a recent Supreme Court judgment affirming the strict party membership register requirements under the Electoral Act.

Weighing in on the development, Sani stated that the apex court’s position leaves no room for ambiguity. He appealed directly to legal practitioners, including Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs), to stop misleading affected politicians into filing fresh, costly suits.

“The Supreme Court ruling that enabled INEC to exclude some names of candidates is very clear. Affected candidates should not waste their money, time and energy fighting a lost battle… Four years will come and go; let them strategise for the future,” Sani cautioned.

Political analysts note that with the legal framework heavily favoring the electoral body’s current stance, excluded aspirants face an uphill battle ahead of the 2027 polls.
