Hansi Flick reveals how Lamine Yamal responded when asked if he wants to be substituted
According to a report by Barca Universal on Saturday October 10, 2026, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has revealed how Lamine Yamal reacted when he was asked whether he wanted to be substituted during the club’s 3-0 victory over Getafe.
The Spanish youngster reportedly refused to leave the pitch, insisting that he wanted to continue playing despite Flick’s consideration of taking him off to manage his workload.
Speaking after the match, the German coach praised Yamal’s passion for football while acknowledging the importance of ensuring the teenager gets sufficient rest throughout a demanding season.
“I asked Lamine Yamal if we should change him, and he said: ‘NO!’ That’s just Lamine. He wants to stay on the pitch. He loves to play football. Sometimes we have to manage the load, but I’m really happy with his attitude,” Flick said, as quoted by BarcaUniversal.
The Barcelona boss also explained that Yamal receives treatment between matches and recovers well, highlighting the importance of proper recovery for professional footballers.
Yamal contributed an assist during the victory over Getafe but was unable to get on the scoresheet. Nevertheless, his performance helped Barcelona secure another positive result as they continued their campaign.
Flick also expressed satisfaction with his team’s overall attitude, praising the players’ quality, intensity and commitment during training. He stressed that the squad remains focused on winning their next match and achieving its ambitions this season.
Meanwhile, Barcelona president Joan Laporta has publicly backed Yamal in the Ballon d’Or race, underlining the growing expectations surrounding the young winger.
