Ghana In 2024 Did Not Vote For A Better Plan,Ghana Voted Out Of Anger—Oppong

Ghanaian political commentator Joseph Osei Oppong Brenya has declared his support for former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the 2028 general election, describing him as the right person to lead the country. He has also criticised President John Dramani Mahama’s administration over its economic policies and performance in government.

In a lengthy Facebook post, Mr Oppong argued that Ghana needs a change in leadership, claiming that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government has not fulfilled the expectations of many citizens since winning the December 2024 general election.

Mr Oppong, a former Director of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) and Chief Executive Officer of Anowuo Group, believes the 2028 election will give Ghanaians another opportunity to decide the country’s political direction.

He expressed hope that voters would return the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to power, this time under the leadership of Dr Bawumia. According to him, the former Vice President has the experience and knowledge needed to address the country’s economic challenges.

Mr Oppong also discussed the circumstances that contributed to the NDC’s return to power in 2024. He pointed to public dissatisfaction over economic difficulties, including the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, rising global inflation and the Russia-Ukraine war.

However, he argued that despite the circumstances that influenced the previous election, the current administration has not done enough to resolve the problems confronting Ghanaians.

He therefore views the 2028 general election as an opportunity for voters to reconsider their previous choice and support a different administration. In his assessment, the next election could provide the NPP with an opportunity to return to government.

A major part of his criticism focused on the government’s management of the economy, particularly fuel prices and developments within Ghana’s cocoa industry. These issues, he suggested, should form part of the national conversation when voters assess the performance of the current administration.

Mr Oppong also highlighted Dr Bawumia’s professional and political background in support of his endorsement. He pointed to Bawumia’s experience as a former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana and as Vice President, arguing that his involvement in economic policy development gives him an advantage.

His comments add to the political debate ahead of the 2028 election, as discussions continue over the country’s economic direction and the performance of the two major political parties.

While Mr Oppong has made his preference clear, the 2028 election will ultimately give Ghanaians the opportunity to decide which candidate they believe is best suited to lead the country.
