“Any Election Where 70 People Have To Die Cannot Be Called Credible– Omoyele Sowore

During an interview on SYMFONI’s Unfiltered podcast, African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore questioned the credibility of the Osun State governorship election, citing allegations of violence surrounding the exercise.

Sowore made the remarks while responding to questions about the Independent National Electoral Commission and its handling of elections.

According to him, the credibility of an election should not be determined solely by what happens on the day votes are cast.

He argued that events preceding an election and developments following the announcement of results must also be considered.

The activist alleged that approximately 70 people had died in violence connected with the Osun election.

He further claimed that more than 30 unidentified bodies remained in mortuaries in the state, although he did not provide independent evidence supporting the figures.

Sowore maintained that allegations of widespread violence raised serious questions about the conditions under which an election was conducted.

He explained that voters should be able to participate in elections without facing intimidation or threats to their safety.

The presidential candidate insisted that electoral credibility required attention to security, preparations, voting procedures and post-election developments.

Expressing his concerns, Sowore said: “Any Election Where 70 People Have To Die Cannot Be Called Credible; Elections Begin Before Voting Day And Continue Even After Results Are Announced.”
