The presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Engineer Seyi Makinde, has challenged the Federal Government to release its petroleum pricing template to enable Nigerians understand how fuel prices are determined and contribute ideas towards reducing the burden on citizens.

Makinde made the call at the APM North-East 2027 Town Hall Meeting in Yola, Adamawa State, where he criticised the government’s handling of the petroleum sector and called for transparency in its pricing mechanism.

The Oyo State governor said Nigerians were not asking for complicated explanations but practical measures that would provide relief amid rising economic challenges.

“We are asking for only two things. We do not want too much grammar; we just want relief for Nigerians. So, we ask the Federal Government to release its pricing template so that citizens will know how they arrived at the current petroleum price and let Nigerians see how things go. If they have a better solution, they will present it,” he said.

Makinde argued that the government should not assume that only those in positions of authority could develop solutions to the country’s economic problems, insisting that citizens with the necessary expertise should be allowed to make contributions.

“The fact that you are in government or the Presidential Villa does not make you the only Nigerians with sense. We have other citizens who can dissect issues and proffer solutions. So, please make your pricing template available to all, and we will make our input,” he added.

The APM candidate also faulted the administration’s economic policies, citing the presidential initiatives on compressed natural gas (CNG) and electric vehicles, as well as the naira-for-crude arrangement, which he described as failures.

He said his call for the release of the pricing template followed comments by the Minister of Finance on the government’s adoption of price modulation for petroleum products.

“They came up with the presidential policy on CNG and electric vehicles. That policy failed. They came up with the naira-for-crude initiative. That policy also failed. Yesterday, I listened to the Minister of Finance on television. He said they are now adopting price modulation for petroleum products,” Makinde said.

He further criticised the administration over its electricity supply record, recalling President Bola Tinubu’s pledge to fix the power sector within four years.

“The President said that if he failed to fix electricity for Nigeria in four years, Nigerians should not vote for him again,” he said, adding that Nigerians had witnessed the failure of the government to fulfil its promises.

Makinde said the country needed urgent action to address insecurity, poverty, electricity shortages and other challenges affecting citizens across the geopolitical zones.

He promised that an APM-led administration would prioritise honesty, accountability and public participation in policymaking.

“My promise to you, the North-East and the people of Nigeria is this: we will be sincere in finding solutions to the challenges that we are faced with. We will not play politics. We will not undermine your rights. We will ensure that we tell you the exact truth. We will listen to you. Solutions can come from anywhere,” he said.

The presidential candidate also pledged that, if elected in 2027, his administration would operate as a transitional government of national unity, with a maximum tenure of four years.

“I stand before you today to tell you that the government you will put in place from May 29, 2027, will be a transitional government of national unity. Our government will not last beyond four years. And it will be an all-inclusive government,” he said.

Makinde added that the 2027 election should usher in a new political direction anchored on truth and practical solutions, while assuring stakeholders that the party’s manifesto would reflect consultations with Nigerians across the country.
