2027: INEC Releases Final Presidential Candidate List As Tinubu, Atiku, Obi, Sowore Make Cut
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of presidential candidates and their running mates for the 2027 general election, featuring 18 candidates from different political parties.
The list contains prominent political figures, including President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to the report published by Daily Post on October 11, 2026, the document was signed by INEC Secretary, Rose Oriaran-Anthony.
Other notable contenders listed by the commission include Oyo State Governor Oluseyi Makinde, who is representing the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Sandy Ojang Onor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and former Cross River State Governor Donald Duke of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).
The list also features Omoyele Sowore of the African Action Congress (AAC), Adewole Adebayo of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Sunday Okereke of the Labour Party (LP), and several other candidates representing different political platforms.
Candidates from other parties include Rufai Adekunle Omo-Aje of the Action Alliance (AA), Abbas-Bin Aliyu of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), Yusuf Kabiru of the Action Peoples Party (APP), Sunday Adenuga of the Boot Party (BP), Adebisi Olusoji of the Democratic Labour Alliance (DLA), Peter Agada of the Young Progressive Party (YPP), and Nwanyanwu Daberechukwu of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).
Ada Elizabeth Frederick Okwori of the National Democratic Party (NDP) and Nkem Esther Okereke of the National Rescue Movement (NRM) are the two women contesting for the presidency, according to the published list.
Four women have also been named as vice-presidential candidates; They are Peace Egobia of the APP, Nafisat Usaku of the DLA, Hajja Konto of the LP, and Patience Key of the YPP.
INEC’s document further shows that the presidential candidates are between 35 and 79 years old, while their running mates fall within the age range of 35 to 80.
Moses Adebisi of the DLA, aged 35, is identified as the youngest presidential candidate; The list also includes an aspirant aged 79, making the contest a mix of younger politicians and older contenders.
The commission has fixed January 16, 2027, for the presidential and National Assembly elections. Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections are scheduled to take place on February 6, 2027.
The revised election timetable followed the enactment of the Electoral Act 2026.
With the publication of the final list, the commission has formally identified the presidential candidates and their running mates for the forthcoming election, setting the stage for the political contest ahead.
