2027: INEC Releases Final List of Presidential Candidates, Running Mates
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the definitive list of contenders for Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election.
According to the document signed by INEC Secretary Rose Oriaran-Anthony, 18 presidential hopefuls and their running mates will be on the ballot.
Among the prominent names are President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), former Vice President Atiku Abubakar representing the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Other notable candidates include Oyo State Governor Oluseyi Makinde of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Sandy Ojang Onor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and former Cross River State Governor Donald Duke of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).
Also featured are Rufai Adekunle Omo-Aje (Action Alliance, AA), Abbas-Bin Aliyu (Action Democratic Party, ADP), Yusuf Kabiru (Action Peoples Party, APP), Omoyele Sowore (African Action Congress, AAC), and Sunday Adenuga (Boot Party, BP).
The list further includes Adebisi Olusoji (Democratic Labour Alliance, DLA), Sunday Okereke (Labour Party, LP), Adewole Adebayo (Social Democratic Party, SDP), Peter Agada (Young Progressive Party, YPP), and Nwanyanwu Daberechukwu (Zenith Labour Party, ZLP).
Two women are contesting the presidency: Ada Elizabeth Frederick Okwori of the National Democratic Party (NDP) and Nkem Esther Okereke of the National Rescue Movement (NRM).
Four women are running as vice-presidential candidates: Peace Egobia (APP), Nafisat Usaku (DLA), Hajja Konto (LP), and Patience Key (YPP).
The age range of candidates spans from 35 to 79 years. Moses Adebisi of the DLA, aged 35, is the youngest presidential candidate, while the oldest is 79.
INEC confirmed that the Presidential and National Assembly elections will take place on January 16, 2027, followed by Governorship and State Assembly elections on February 6, 2027.
The revised timetable aligns with the newly enacted Electoral Act 2026.
