11 Indians among 300 injured in Riyadh airport attack that killed 12, India condemns strikes
At least 11 Indians were among more than 300 people injured in an attack at Saudi Arabia’s King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh that killed 12 people, the Indian Embassy said on Sunday.
The embassy said it was in touch with local authorities and hospital officials to check on the condition of the injured Indians following the October 10 attack.
In a post on social media, the embassy condemned the incident as a “dastardly attack” and said its officials had reached out to hospital authorities to enquire about the well-being of the injured.
The deceased included four Saudi nationals, two Bangladeshis and one national each from Palestine, the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Sudan.
India on Sunday strongly condemned the repeated attacks on the airport over the past few days, calling strikes on civilians and civilian infrastructure “completely unacceptable” and demanding an immediate halt to them.
“We express our condolences to the families of the deceased and wish speedy recovery to the injured persons,” the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement.
Saudi Arabia has blamed Houthi militants for the attack.
India also expressed solidarity with the Saudi government and people in defending the kingdom’s sovereignty, while hoping for an early return to peace and normalcy in the region.
Amid the deteriorating security situation, the Indian Embassy had issued an advisory on Thursday urging Indian nationals in Saudi Arabia to remain alert, stay indoors when necessary and follow instructions issued by local authorities.
