Why I rejected inclusion in Lagos APC campaign council — Toyin Abraham

Popular Nollywood actress, Toyin Abraham, has explained that she rejected her inclusion in the Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council because her name was listed without her knowledge.

Abraham gave the explanation on Friday while responding on X to a user who suggested that her decision could prevent “bullies” from attacking her.

The actress said her decision was not prompted by criticism or online attacks but by the fact that she discovered her name on the campaign council list without being consulted. She also reiterated that she had already stated her intention to stay out of politics.

“Bro, I didn’t do it because of any bully. I did it because it was the right thing to do. I woke up and saw my name on a list I knew absolutely nothing about.

“Moreover, I’ve already said it—I’m not interested in politics. Lawyer Nupe I love u and thanks for love and support,” she wrote.

Her latest clarification followed the release of the Lagos APC campaign council structure, in which Abraham was listed under the Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate.

The actress had earlier addressed the inclusion in an Instagram post on Thursday, asking the public to disregard her name on any campaign committee and stating that she was staying out of politics.

“I’m not a member of any campaign council. I have said it recently, I am staying out of politics. Please disregard the supposed inclusion of my name in any campaign committee.”

The campaign council list was released by the Kadri Obafemi Hamzat Media Centre ahead of its scheduled inauguration on Friday, September 18, at the APC Secretariat on ACME Road, Ikeja.

Abraham was listed alongside several prominent figures from Nollywood and the Nigerian music industry, including Eniola Badmus, Bimbo Akintola, veteran actor Jide Kosoko, and Fuji musicians Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, Abass Akande Obesere and Adewale Ayuba.

The Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate is headed by Toke Benson-Awoyinka as Director, with Kosoko as Co-Director and Badmus as Deputy Director. Akeem Alimi, popularly known as Ajala Jalingo, was named Secretary, while Dare Olateju was appointed Assistant Secretary.

Other members listed from the Yoruba film industry include Adebayo Salami, popularly known as Oga Bello, Saheed Balogun, Bukky Wright, Fathia Balogun, Yinka Quadri and Tayo Sobola.

The list also includes Abiola Adebayo, Remi Oshodi, Foluke Daramola, Kikelomo Balogun, Bopo Oyekan Ismaila, Rasaq Yusuf, Aderinola Philips, Olamide Maja and Abbey Lanre.

Representatives from the music industry include Sulaimon Alao Adekunle, popularly known as Malaika; Akorede Babatunde Okunola, known as Osupa; Temitope Adekunle, popularly known as Small Doctor; Sule Adiro Ataweye; Yemisi Falaye; Leke Babatunde Akinrowo; Kayode Fahm and Aruna Ishola.

The Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate is part of the wider Lagos APC Campaign Council, with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu as Chairman and Kadri Obafemi Hamzat as Deputy Chairman.
