We Have Missed Him for Sure; We Are Happy He Is Back — Chelsea Boss on Injured Midfield Star

According to a report by Football London on Friday, October 9, 2026, Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has provided a positive update on Moises Caicedo’s fitness ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge.

The Ecuadorian midfielder has been recovering from a calf injury, forcing Chelsea to manage his rehabilitation carefully to prevent further complications. However, Alonso has confirmed that the 24 year old is feeling much better and making progress towards a return.

Speaking ahead of the Bournemouth fixture, Alonso admitted that Chelsea had missed Caicedo’s quality and energy in midfield.

Any team missing a player of his quality, his dynamic, we have missed him for sure. We are happy he is back and he feels better. We didn’t want to take risks for Brentford, for example. He feels much better, Alonso said.

Caicedo’s potential return would provide a major boost for Chelsea as they look to recover from their disappointing 3-0 defeat to Brentford in their previous league match.

The midfielder has become an important part of Chelsea’s setup because of his ability to win possession, break up opposition attacks and provide defensive cover for his teammates.

His injury concerns emerged during Chelsea’s 4-3 victory over Brighton on August 30, when he came on as a substitute before experiencing discomfort. He had also missed the club’s opening two matches of the campaign.

Although Caicedo appeared close to returning before the Brentford game, Alonso chose not to risk him, prioritising his long-term fitness.

The latest update offers Chelsea hope ahead of Bournemouth’s visit. However, Caicedo’s improved condition does not guarantee a starting place, as the manager must assess his readiness before making a decision.

With several important fixtures approaching, Chelsea will want the midfielder to return fully fit and make a consistent contribution throughout the season.
