Sonko’s Urgent Prayer Appeal Sparks Speculation Over Oburu Odinga’s Health

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko drew public attention after posting an emotive statement for immediate national prayers for a patient who had been hospitalised to critical care in a serious condition.

His remark sparked conjecture on social media, with some Kenyans speculating that the unidentified patient could be Siaya Senator and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Oburu Odinga.

The conjecture arose following rumours that Oburu had been admitted to Nairobi Hospital, generating concerns among fans about his health and prompting enquiries about his condition.

However, neither Sonko nor Oburu’s family have publicly verified that the senator was the one mentioned in the former governor’s passionate plea for national prayers.

Oburu’s family had already addressed worries about his health through his son, Jaoko Odinga, who offered an update, stating that the veteran politician was undergoing medical treatment.

During a public ceremony in Siaya, Jaoko delivered a statement from his father, assuring fans that Oburu was in good spirits while adhering to medical advice and rigorous bed rest.

Despite the family’s assurances, speculation over Oburu’s health persisted online, with some social media users linking Sonko’s depiction of a seriously ill patient to stories of the senator’s hospitalisation.
