EPL Table Standings After Chelsea Won 5-1
Chelsea returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion after Jordan Henderson scored twice on his home debut to inspire a commanding victory over Bournemouth.
The 36-year-old midfielder needed just 68 seconds to open his Chelsea account, before finding the net again after the break as the Blues secured their first victory in four matches and climbed into the Premier League’s top five.
Joao Pedro also struck twice, while Morgan Rogers contributed a goal in a dominant display that left Bournemouth still searching for their first league win under manager Marco Rose.
Henderson’s opener came from Chelsea’s first attempt of the match.
Played through by Cole Palmer, who had signed a new contract running until 2034 shortly before kick-off, the midfielder curled his effort against the inside of the post and into the net.
Chelsea doubled their advantage just 84 seconds later. Henderson released Rogers, whose cross-shot was deflected over goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic by Bournemouth defender Antonio Silva.
Following a VAR review, the goal was credited to Rogers, taking his tally for the season to four.
Bournemouth attempted to respond, with Brazilian forward Rayan firing over before later seeing an effort saved by Chelsea goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.
Martinez also denied Ryan Christie, while Silva was unable to convert a headed chance before the interval.
The visitors’ hopes of a comeback suffered another blow immediately after half-time when Joao Pedro made it 3-0.
Pedro Neto capitalised on another defensive error from Silva, allowing the Brazilian forward to fire into the top-right corner.
Bournemouth reduced the deficit five minutes later through Evanilson, who benefited from a loose clearance by Moises Caicedo after a dangerous corner caused problems inside Chelsea’s six-yard box.
However, Chelsea quickly restored their three-goal cushion.
Joao Pedro completed his brace by turning in a cross from Pep Chavarria before Henderson produced the moment of the match, curling a free-kick from 25 yards beyond Petrovic to complete his double.
The result gives Chelsea a timely boost after a run of three matches without victory, lifting them into the top five of the Premier League table.
