Saturday Afternoon VIPIR 6 ALERT DAY Update
Saturday afternoon update from Chief Meteorologist Jenna Petracci:
Isaias is now post-tropical, but its remnant low is still over north Alabama with a warm front that has developed just to the south of the CSRA. Notice the radar is pretty quiet right now when it comes to storms, but you can see the warm temperatures and higher dewpoints now showing up in our southern counties, along with the wind shift with southerly flow. This is all a key indication that the environment is becoming unstable.
With all that said, our level 2 slight risk of severe weather with the main concern being tornadoes is still in effect across the entire CSRA. Tornadoes will be most likely south of I-20, but please still stay alert even if you’re up north. The main window to watch will be from 2-8pm.
Rain bands will continue to move across the CSRA with periods of heavy rainfall. Some places will still see an additional couple of inches, while others don’t get much. Remember, overall totals from this event are 1-3″ with isolated pockets of 3-6″. There is a Flood Watch still in effect for the majority of the CSRA until Sunday morning. The Wind Advisory also continues until 11pm tonight for wind gusts still up to 40 mph at times. Sustained winds will be at 15-20 mph.
