Ruto Accuses Natembeya of Derailing Development in Trans Nzoia Through Tawe Movement

President William Ruto has accused Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya of derailing development through his Tawe movement, amid growing political differences over the 2027 presidential race. Ruto maintained that his administration would continue implementing development projects in the county despite opposition from Natembeya.

The President reiterated his commitment to improving roads, healthcare and other essential services, insisting that political differences would not derail his development agenda.

Natembeya’s Tawe movement has emerged as a platform for opposition to Ruto’s political ambitions, setting the stage for a growing contest for influence in Western Kenya ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The latest exchange highlights the widening political rift between the two leaders as Ruto seeks to strengthen his support in the region while Natembeya aligns himself with leaders challenging the President’s re-election bid.

Currently, Natembeya is aligned with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna who is eying the presidential seat. The governor is also against allies of Ruto from Western Kenya like Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi who he accuses of failing to solve the problems facing the Luhya community.
