Russia suffers highest monthly losses of the year and has no new territory to show for it, Ukraine says

Russia suffered its highest monthly losses of 2026 in September while making no net territorial gains, according to Ukraine’s armed forces and an assessment by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW). Ukraine reported 46,320 Russian casualties last month, while the ISW said Russian forces lost territory across the frontline despite seizing some ground.
