Several reactions have trailed the comment that was made by former Kaduna lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani after the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC announced Southeast as the region with the lowest number of registered voters in the 2027 General Elections.
The statement of Senator Shehu Sani was contained in a post that he shared on his official X handle on Saturday, October 10, 2026.
The Independent National Electoral Commission also stated that Lagos state has the highest number of registered voters.
In a statement that Shehu Sani shared on his page, he said it is either the people of the Southeast region registered in other places or there was no adequate enlightenment on the need for people to register and vote.
Here is what Shehu Sani wrote on his official X handle;
“The Southeast has the lowest number of registered voters in the country. This is a serious political issue for the region.
“The problem is either that many people from the region decided to register and vote in other states or there was no mobilization and enlightenment on the need for people to register”.
