1. The remains of former Edo State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Dan Orbih, have been taken to his hometown of Ogbonna in Etsako Central Local Government Area for burial. Orbih is expected to be buried after a church service in the community. His remains arrived in Benin City from Abuja on Friday and were received by Governor Monday Okpebholo and others.
2. President Bola Tinubu is kicking off his re-election campaign in Kaduna on Saturday, October 24, the Director-General of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Presidential Campaign Council, PCC, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, announced on Friday. Yari said the campaign kickoff would be preceded by the inauguration of the campaign council on Wednesday.
3. The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has launched a fresh attack on former Rivers State Governor and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Rotimi Amaechi, describing him as a loser and declaring that he would not become Nigeria’s president. Wike spoke in Abuja on Friday after a meeting with FCT area council chairmen, while reacting to remarks attributed to Amaechi that “only thieves and mad people would vote for President Bola Tinubu”.
4. A Senior Magistrate Court sitting in Abuja has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of former Imo State Governor, Senator Rochas Okorocha, and a former senator, Ifeanyi Araraume, over alleged criminal conspiracy, forgery and the tendering of false documents. Also ordered to be arrested are Timothy Ama Chuks and Amen Okorocha, who allegedly conspired with Rochas Okorocha to forge and tender false APC results, claiming that the former governor had won.
5. There are indications that domestic petroleum product prices could rise further as petrol depot prices surged across Lagos, Port Harcourt, Warri and Calabar on Friday. Several marketers in Port Harcourt raised their prices to N1,900 per litre, despite lower pump prices at some filling stations in Lagos.
6. The 20 prospective corps members released by suspected kidnappers on Wednesday have reportedly been offered postings to any of the six South-West states. A source familiar with the development said the survivors were allowed to choose the states where they would continue their national service.
7. The Nigeria Customs Service, Tin Can Island Port Command, has disclosed that it intercepted two 40-foot containers carrying Delta-8 cannabis-infused cookies and gummies hidden in importers’ cars at Tin Can Island Port, Lagos. The command’s Public Relations Officer, Oscar Ivara, disclosed this in a statement on Friday. He added that the contraband was intercepted through sustained vigilance and effective collaboration between NCS officers and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
8. The All Progressives Congress has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission to bar political parties that fail to comply with Section 77 of the Electoral Act 2026 from fielding candidates in the 2027 general elections. In a letter dated October 9, signed by its National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, and National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, and made available to journalists on Friday, the APC urged INEC to enforce the Supreme Court’s judgment on membership register requirements.
9. The African Action Congress has inaugurated its Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 elections, with plans to intensify nationwide mobilisation for its presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, and his running mate, Haruna Magashi. The party announced the inauguration in a statement on Friday, signed by its Acting National Chairman, Samuel Ajeigbe, and National Secretary, Oshiokhue Phillip Ikpeminoghena.
10. The Imo State Police Command has arrested a traffic warden and two State Civil Guard Corps personnel over the alleged harassment and extortion of a motorist in Owerri. The operatives were captured in a viral video recorded by a car occupant while they allegedly harassed and extorted a driver over the absence of a driver’s licence.
