NEWS IN: Governor Ditches ODM, Announces Preferred Party
Tana River Governor Dhadho Godhana has announced plans to revive the Federal Party of Kenya after leaving the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), citing the need for a political party that will champion the interests of the Coast region ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking on Saturday, October 10, 2026, Godhana said the Coast region lacked a political vehicle capable of articulating its concerns amid changing political alliances ahead of the next elections.
“If you look at the conversation across the country, people are seeing a vacuum in the Coast. There’s no party that speaks to the interests of the Coast,” Godhana said.
The governor argued that residents needed a political platform that would provide direction and help them advance their political and development priorities.
He defended his decision to revive the Federal Party of Kenya, warning that the absence of a strong regional political outfit could leave Coast residents vulnerable to political manipulation.
Godhana said the party would not limit its operations to the Coast region but would seek support across the country by fielding candidates in every elective position, including the presidency.
The plan signals his intention to establish a nationwide political organisation capable of competing for seats at different levels of government in the 2027 elections.
The governor also indicated that grassroots mobilisation would form part of the party’s revival strategy as it seeks to build support among voters.
His announcement comes as political leaders across the country reposition themselves and explore different alliances ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The Federal Party of Kenya’s proposed comeback could introduce another political option for Coast voters as parties compete to attract regional support.
However, the party will need to establish grassroots structures, recruit candidates and build a national presence to fulfil its stated ambition of contesting elections across the country.
Godhana’s move marks a shift in his political affiliation from ODM as he seeks to advance the argument that the Coast region needs a dedicated political vehicle to represent its interests in national politics.
