Manchester United issue injury updates on seven players vs Tottenham with three ruled out
According to a report by Manchester Evening News on Friday October 9, Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has provided an injury update on seven players ahead of his side’s Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Saturday.
The Red Devils will be without Patrick Dorgu, Noussair Mazraoui and Benjamin Sesko for the encounter, while Kobbie Mainoo, Marcus Rashford and Amad Diallo remain doubts as they continue their recovery from injury.
Carrick also delivered a positive update on Carlos Baleba, who has improved his fitness and returned to regular training ahead of the weekend fixture.
United will be looking to secure an important victory against Tottenham, who sit at the bottom of the Premier League table. However, the injury situation has presented Carrick with several selection decisions as he prepares his team for the match.
Dorgu is expected to be sidelined for several weeks after picking up an injury while representing Denmark during the international break.
The defender was forced off during international duty, and Carrick confirmed that the problem would keep him out for an extended period.
“Patrick came off and looks like he’ll be out for probably a number of weeks,” the United manager said.
Mazraoui is another confirmed absentee after sustaining a knock while playing for Morocco. The defender is not yet fully fit, and United will have to wait before he can return to action.
“Nous came off and took a knock. He’s not quite right yet, so we’ll have to see how he is,” Carrick added.
Sesko is also unavailable after suffering a recurrence of the shin injury that previously kept him out for four months.
The striker withdrew from international duty after experiencing the problem again, dealing another setback to United’s attacking options.
His absence could force Carrick to consider alternative options in attack as United prepare to face Tottenham.
Meanwhile, Mainoo and Rashford are both working towards returning to full fitness after withdrawing from the England squad during the international break.
Both players have completed some training, but Carrick stopped short of confirming whether they would be available for Saturday’s game.
Amad is in a similar situation as he continues his recovery from injury. The winger has also returned to limited training, although his involvement against Tottenham remains uncertain.
Providing an update on the recovering players, Carrick said: “Carlos has improved, he’s trained a lot. Amad’s done a little bit of training, Marcus has done a little bit of training, Kobbie’s done a little bit of training.”
The United manager also confirmed that Benjamin Sesko remains further away from returning because of his ongoing injury problem.
“Ben’s a little bit further away with the issue he’s got, so he won’t be ready,” Carrick explained.
There was, however, some encouragement regarding Baleba, whose improved condition could give United another option in midfield.
Although Carrick confirmed that the midfielder had completed plenty of training, he did not guarantee that Baleba would start against Tottenham.
United will now assess their recovering players before making final decisions about the matchday squad.
Despite Tottenham’s position at the bottom of the table, Carrick has warned his players against underestimating their opponents.
The former Tottenham midfielder believes their performances have sometimes been better than their results suggest and expects them to provide a difficult test at Old Trafford.
“I think they’ve played a lot better than that at times, and when you look at the games, they’re a very good team with some very good players,” Carrick said.
