Manchester United considering Benjamin Sesko options after latest injury blow

According to a report by Manchester Evening News on Saturday October 10, 2026, Manchester United are considering different treatment options for Benjamin Sesko after the striker suffered another shin injury just weeks after returning from a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

The ÂŁ73 million forward is facing another period out of action, with the club’s medical team still assessing the problem to determine the best course of treatment.

Manchester United could consider surgery to address the recurring issue, although no final decision has been made as the club continues to evaluate the striker’s condition.

Sesko struggled with a shin problem towards the end of last season and missed the March international break before aggravating the injury against Liverpool at the beginning of May.

The 23-year-old subsequently missed pre-season and was unavailable for nearly four months before returning to action on the opening day of the 2026/27 campaign.

However, his comeback has now been interrupted after he reported further pain in his shin following Manchester United’s Carabao Cup match against Brighton.

Sesko had started games against Sabah in the Champions League and Brighton before suffering the latest setback.

United head coach Michael Carrick confirmed that the latest problem affects a similar area but is not exactly the same injury the striker suffered previously.

“It’s not the exact issue, it’s a similar area, but it’s not the exact same thing again,” Carrick said.

He added that the club were still working to establish how long Sesko would be unavailable, although they hoped he would return as soon as possible.

Asked whether surgery could be considered, Carrick said there were different options for the club to examine.

The manager also explained that Sesko had recovered well from his previous injury but that the club would have to respond carefully to the latest development.

Sesko will miss Manchester United’s upcoming Premier League clash against Tottenham, with his return date still uncertain.

Meanwhile, United have received more encouraging news regarding midfielder Carlos Baleba, who is approaching a potential debut for the club.

The ÂŁ70 million midfielder was an unused substitute against Fulham but has since gained some playing time in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Lausanne-Sport.

Carrick confirmed that Baleba was making progress but stressed that the midfielder needed time to regain his fitness after missing important preparation during pre-season.

“He’s certainly getting closer, Carlos. It’s been great to have him out on the grass and to see him up close really, and played a little bit in a training game that we had last week, so that was good for him to get some minutes,” the United manager said.

Carrick added that the club would have to choose the right moment to introduce the midfielder, while expressing confidence in the options available in his squad.

Baleba could make his Manchester United debut against Tottenham, although his involvement will depend on his readiness.
