Kenya Pipeline Issues Major Statement After Oil Workers Union Serves Strike Notice as Talks Continue

Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) has confirmed receiving a strike notice from the Kenya Petroleum Oil Workers Union (KPOWU) as negotiations between the two sides continue over issues affecting unionisable employees.

In a statement issued on Saturday, October 10, 2026, the company acknowledged a press conference held by the union, during which concerns related to the dispute were raised publicly.

KPC said it had taken note of the matters outlined in the strike notice and was aware that the union had communicated its position through the media.

The company maintained that it remained committed to fulfilling its obligations to employees in accordance with the law and the terms agreed upon under the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

KPC said it would continue implementing the agreement and observing labour laws governing its relationship with unionisable workers.

The company also stressed the importance of maintaining a constructive relationship with KPOWU, noting that resolving the outstanding issues through established labour relations channels would serve the interests of employees, the company and the public.

According to KPC, discussions with the union are still ongoing, with some engagements facilitated by third parties, including the Federation of Kenya Employers (FKE).

The company urged both parties to continue using the existing negotiation mechanisms to resolve the dispute, expressing the view that public exchanges would not help address the outstanding concerns.

KPC said it remained willing to engage the union through appropriate forums in an effort to reach a resolution.

The strike notice raises the possibility of industrial action if the dispute is not resolved, although the company did not announce that a strike had begun.

The company clarified that it does not charge fees for job applications or recruitment and advised applicants to confirm genuine opportunities through its official website, www.kpc.co.ke, and verified social media platforms.
