The governor announced the financial reward after listening to the student’s address at the commissioning ceremony, where she spoke about the importance of technical education and the state government’s investment in equipping young people with practical skills.
In a video shared on Instagram by Gbaramatu Voice, Oborevwori was heard announcing the reward, saying, “My friends, my brothers, I want to support her education with 50 million Naira.”
Davina, who delivered the speech on behalf of the students, welcomed the governor and other dignitaries to the ceremony, describing the commissioning as a historic occasion and a new beginning for students of the institution.
She said the establishment of the college demonstrated the state government’s commitment to providing quality and practical education for young people.
According to her, technical education would equip students with relevant skills to contribute to society and become self-reliant.
“Your Excellency, technical education gives students the opportunity to learn practical skills in areas such as electrical installation, welding and fabrication, automobile technology, building construction, computer technology, and other vocational fields,” she said.
Davina added that students recognised the importance of acquiring practical skills to prepare for the future, describing the institution as a valuable investment in their lives.
“Your Excellency, as students, we understand that the future belongs to those who are properly educated and equipped with relevant skills. We therefore consider the establishment of this college a valuable investment in our future,” she said.
The schoolgirl also expressed appreciation to the governor, the Commissioner for Technical Education, the ministry’s permanent secretary and other officials involved in the development of technical education in the state.
She also acknowledged the support and hospitality of the people of the Oghara Kingdom.
Speaking on behalf of her fellow students, Davina pledged that they would make good use of the opportunities provided by the institution.
She promised that the students would take their studies seriously, protect and maintain the school’s facilities, use the skills they acquire responsibly and strive for excellence in both academic and technical education.
“We will take our studies seriously, protect and maintain the facilities, use the skills we acquire responsibly, strive for excellence in both academic and technical education, become responsible citizens who will contribute positively to our communities and make the Delta State Government proud,” she said.
The student’s address also included a direct expression of political support for the governor, whom she praised for his administration’s development agenda.
“Your Excellency, if I were 18, be sure you have my vote, because I believe you will do more in renewed hope for more agendas,” she said.
