Former PS’s Son Sparks Reactions After Using Abusive Words Against Mourners During Brother’s Burial
Former Principal Secretary Fred Segor’s family has attracted attention online after one of his sons used strong language to address politicians who attended his elder brother’s burial.
He accused them for turning the funeral into a political gathering. The young man spoke during the burial ceremony, where he expressed his displeasure with those who had been given an opportunity to address mourners but allegedly used the occasion to discuss politics.
He explained that he had made a promise with his late brother, Chebii that whichever of them died first, the other would ensure the funeral remained free from political activities.
The promise, he said, was meant to protect the burial from being overshadowed by political discussions and allow mourners to focus on the person they had gathered to lay to rest.
He warned those who had spoken at the gathering against bringing political issues into the funeral, saying they had gone against the promise he had made with his brother.
The young man then turned his attention to the politicians and other speakers he felt had ignored the agreement. He apologised to the mourners before using an expletive to express his anger.
He told those he was addressing that he genuinely had no respect for their actions,. The incident happened during the burial of Terrence Chebii Kiptoon, the firstborn son of former Tourism and Wildlife Principal Secretary Prof. Fred Segor.
Terrence, who was a fourth-year student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), died following an accident in September 2026. He was laid to rest in Uasin Gishu County on October 9.
The video has since drawn mixed reactions from Kenyans on social media, with some supporting the young man’s decision to speak out while others questioned his choice of words.
One social media user questioned whether members of Generation Z had taken the practice of rebuking politicians at funerals too far.
The user noted that the young man was the son of a politician and questioned why it should be controversial for political leaders to attend the funeral of a fellow politician’s son and speak about politics.
The same user, however, observed that creating a controversial moment during a funeral could shift attention away from the deceased.
According to the user, mourners could end up leaving the ceremony discussing the person who caused the controversy instead of remembering the person who had been buried.
