Finance Minister Aurangzeb leaves for Bangkok to attend IMF, World Bank annual meetings
Federal Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb has departed for Bangkok, Thailand, to attend the 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Group, scheduled for October 12 to 18.
During his visit, the finance minister is scheduled to hold more than 60 high-level meetings with international financial institutions, finance ministers, policymakers, development partners, global investors and representatives of leading international banks.
Pakistan will highlight its economic stabilization efforts, structural reforms and transition toward sustainable growth driven by investment and exports during the meetings.
The government will also reaffirm its commitment to strengthening relations with international capital markets and development partners while promoting private sector-led growth, employment opportunities and financial inclusion.
Aurangzeb will meet the leadership of the IMF and World Bank Group, along with officials from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA).
Discussions will focus on Pakistan’s economic outlook, ongoing reform measures, private sector development and opportunities for future cooperation.
The finance minister will also participate in a meeting hosted by the IMF managing director, bringing together finance ministers, central bank governors and heads of regional financial institutions from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
Meetings are also scheduled with the leadership of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), OPEC Fund for International Development, Saudi Fund for Development and other development finance institutions.
On the sidelines of the annual meetings, Aurangzeb will hold bilateral discussions with his counterparts from Saudi Arabia, China, Türkiye, Iran, the United Kingdom and Thailand.
These meetings will focus on expanding cooperation in economic development, investment, trade and other areas of mutual interest.
Separate meetings with US Treasury officials will address bilateral economic cooperation and Pakistan’s reform and investment agenda.
The finance minister will also meet representatives of major international financial institutions, including JPMorgan, Citi, Deutsche Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, MUFG, Mashreq Bank and Dubai Islamic Bank.
Pakistan’s investment potential will be presented at investor forums, investment seminars and roundtable discussions aimed at attracting international capital and strengthening engagement with global financial markets.
Aurangzeb is also scheduled to meet representatives of Alibaba International Digital Commerce to discuss Pakistan’s digital economy, e-commerce sector and investment opportunities.
During the visit, the finance minister will participate in the G-24 meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors, the 17th V20 Ministerial Dialogue and the 16th Ministerial Meeting of the Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action.
He will also attend a ministerial dialogue on improving employment opportunities, the inaugural meeting of the Governing Council of the Borrowing Countries Forum and the plenary session of the IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings.
His engagements will include policy discussions on mitigating sovereign financial risks and converting demographic changes into opportunities for human capital development and employment generation.
Aurangzeb is scheduled to meet representatives of the three major international sovereign credit rating agencies — Fitch Ratings, Moody’s and S&P Global — to highlight Pakistan’s economic performance, fiscal measures and structural reform agenda.
The finance minister will also engage with global investors and financial institutions to discuss Pakistan’s progress in strengthening fiscal and external sector buffers and restoring access to international capital markets.
Meetings are planned with representatives of international media organizations, including Reuters, Bloomberg, Nikkei Asia, Channel News Asia, The Wall Street Journal and Agence France-Presse (AFP).
Policy discussions with the Atlantic Council and Eurasia Group will focus on Pakistan’s economic outlook, structural reforms and investment prospects.
Throughout the annual meetings, Pakistan will present its progress in restoring macroeconomic stability, implementing structural reforms and strengthening fiscal and external sector resilience.
The government will emphasize investment promotion, export growth, private sector development, job creation and financial inclusion as central priorities of its economic agenda.
