Section 144 imposed in Rawalpindi and Murree
Add ARY News on GoogleFollow on Google DiscoverImage credit= Illustration/FileAAResizeRAWALPINDI: Considering the current law and order situation, the Punjab government has imposed Section 144 in Rawalpindi and Murree districts for one month.
As per the official notification, these restrictions shall be applicable from October 10 till November 8. Public gatherings, processions, rallies, sit-in or protest will be prohibited in whole of the two districts. Gathering of more than five persons, use of batons, petrol bombs and use of weapons shall also be banned. Pillion riding on motorcycle and loud speaker shall also be banned under the order.
The implementation of Section 144 has been ordered due to security fears, the official said and added that the strict legal action will be taken against any person who would go against the order.
Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), section 144 empowers district administration and provincial governments to pass prohibitory orders in case of pressing nuisance or imminent danger. This provision is often exercised by authorities throughout Pakistan to prevent civil disorder, to avert potential security threats, and to regulate public demonstrations during politically or security-sensitive situations. It is generally enforced to ban rallies, unauthorized assemblies, and the carrying of weapons to secure public safety and property.
