Catholic Bishop Stands Up During a Burial, Says Family Is Lying About Taking Care of the Deceased

A Catholic priest left mourners visibly shaken after turning a burial ceremony into a blunt sermon on dishonesty and neglect of loved ones.

Father Gichure was captured in a video now circulating widely on social media, speaking passionately to the camera at what appears to be an outdoor church gathering held under a tent canopy.

The priest wasted no time addressing stories about the deceased that he said were being spread publicly.

He disputed accounts about the person’s background and marriage history, calling them outright falsehoods.

“Let us stop lying, please!” he told those present.

He also appeared to fault some media platforms for exaggerating the truth to generate content, adding that he personally knew details about the family that had not been reported.

Father Gichure then posed three questions drawn from scripture, which he said every person will ultimately have to answer.

The first, “Where are you?”, challenged mourners to reflect on whether they are truly present in their faith and families or simply going through the motions.

The second, “Where is your brother?”, was extended to relationships with spouses and parents.

He sharply criticised people who dress up and parade around town while their mothers struggle at home in poverty, likening such people to a Christmas tree.

The third question touched on siblings and parents more broadly, with the priest warning that Kenyans will face these questions at their final reckoning.

“Let us be responsible with what God has given us,” he urged, adding, “Let us be honest.”

He closed by reminding the congregation that performing religious or social rituals while neglecting those closest to you amounts to living a lie.
