After winning their opening two games of the Ghana Premier League season, Hearts of Oak are now without a victory in their last two matches and will be looking to get back on track when they host newly promoted Port City on Sunday.

The Phobians made an encouraging start to the campaign but have since recorded a defeat and a draw in their last two outings. Their performances in both games have been underwhelming, raising questions about their ability to sustain a title challenge.

Head coach Nebojša Kapor will be hoping for an improved display as Hearts look to silence their doubters and return to winning ways at the University of Ghana Stadium.

The club have also had to address reports of unrest in camp amid claims that players were not being properly catered for. Hearts have denied the allegations, insisting that adequate feeding arrangements are in place for players ahead of matches.

The controversy threatened to become a distraction ahead of Sunday’s encounter, but the club have moved to dismiss the reports while urging supporters to turn up in numbers to back the team.

Kapor, meanwhile, is aware of the threat posed by Port City and has warned his players against underestimating the newcomers.

“Exactly. Port City is a very good side. They also signed a lot of quality players. They also had quality before the season started, and they strengthened some lines,” Kapor said.

“We found some solutions to determine our actions, and how to also block some of their positive sides,” he added.

Port City head into the game in high spirits after beating Bechem United in their previous outing. The victory was their third of the season and lifted them above Hearts of Oak into third place on the league table.

The newcomers have made an encouraging start to life in the top flight and will be aiming to maintain their momentum by securing another positive result against one of Ghana’s most decorated clubs.

Port City are currently two points ahead of Hearts, who occupy sixth position with eight points from a possible 15.

Sunday’s fixture will be the first meeting between the two sides in the Ghana Premier League, with Port City experiencing top-flight football for the first time in the club’s history.

The encounter also presents an opportunity for the people of Kukurantumi to see their club test themselves against one of the traditional powerhouses of Ghanaian football.

For Hearts, the objective is clear: end their winless run and get their campaign back on track. Port City, however, will be determined to continue their impressive start and leave the University of Ghana Stadium with a result.
