Wike: How Do You Seek An Alliance With A Gov That You Denied Ticket And Forced To Withdraw-Nwibubasa

According to remarks made on Arise TV, African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain Leloonu Nwibubasa has questioned the likelihood of a successful political alliance between Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, arguing that their prolonged political conflict could undermine any reconciliation efforts.

Nwibubasa acknowledged Wike’s political experience but suggested that his reported efforts to rebuild relations with Fubara might have come too late, considering the disagreements and political setbacks that have characterised their relationship.

Speaking during the television interview, Nwibubasa said, “Wike is actually quite street-wise when it comes to politics. He understands that this is the time to begin to seek alliances and collaboration, but unfortunately he’s doing it late. How do you seek an alliance with a governor that you denied a ticket and forced to withdraw from a governorship contest? How do you seek an alliance with a governor that you denied a second term opportunity?”

The ADC chieftain’s comments centred on the political crisis between Wike and Fubara, which has generated considerable tension within Rivers State’s political establishment.

Nwibubasa argued that rebuilding the relationship would require more than an understanding between the two political figures because the conflict had also affected Fubara’s supporters and their political ambitions.

He claimed that supporters aligned with the Rivers governor were excluded from opportunities to secure party tickets across several elective positions during the political struggle.

According to Nwibubasa, none of Fubara’s supporters received tickets for any of the 23 State House of Assembly seats, 13 House of Representatives seats or senatorial contests.

He suggested that these alleged exclusions had created grievances that could complicate any attempt to restore political cooperation between the two camps.

Nwibubasa further argued that even if Fubara personally decided to reconcile with Wike, the governor would still face the challenge of explaining such a decision to the supporters who stood by him during the dispute.

The ADC chieftain indicated that political alliances depend not only on agreements between prominent leaders but also on the willingness of their respective supporters to accept reconciliation.

His remarks highlight the difficulties involved in resolving political disputes when disagreements extend beyond individual relationships to include party structures, electoral opportunities and competing political interests.

Nwibubasa maintained that Wike’s political experience might help him recognise the importance of alliances, but argued that the timing and circumstances of any reconciliation attempt could determine whether it succeeds.

He questioned whether the political damage caused by the dispute could be overcome without addressing the concerns of Fubara and those who supported him throughout the crisis.
