I Had No Inclination That I Was Going to Make it;It Would Be Stupid to Say I Didn’t Have Hope-Arukwe

Nollywood actor Uzor Arukwe has revealed that he was uncertain about achieving success in the Nigerian film industry despite his determination to pursue an acting career.

Arukwe made this known during an interview on the Tea with Tay podcast on Friday, October 9, 2026, while recounting the challenges he encountered after deciding to follow his passion for acting.

The actor explained that although he remained hopeful about his future, he had no assurance that his efforts would eventually earn him the recognition he enjoys today. He noted that his early years in the entertainment industry were filled with uncertainty, particularly when acting opportunities were difficult to secure.

Arukwe recalled that he lost his corporate job in 2012 and subsequently decided to concentrate on acting, believing it was the career path he wanted to pursue. However, his decision came with significant challenges, as he went from November 2012 to December 2013 without getting a single acting job in either film or theatre.

He also disclosed that he was involved in a serious motor accident during the same difficult period, adding to the challenges he faced while trying to establish himself in Nollywood.

Reflecting on whether he had anticipated his eventual success, Arukwe admitted that he never had any clear indication that he would make it in the industry, although he continued to hold on to hope.

“I had no inclination that I was going to make it. It would be stupid to say that I didn’t have hope,” he said.

His account highlights the uncertainty surrounding his early career and the difficulties he experienced while trying to establish himself as an actor.

Despite the setbacks, Arukwe continued pursuing his passion, eventually building a career in Nollywood after years of perseverance and navigating periods when opportunities were limited.
