Tension as Sports Minister Demands Immediate Ouster of Powerful NSA Director-General

October 9, 2026 – In a sharp rebuke to the National Sports Authority (NSA), the Personal Assistant to the Minister of Youth and Sports, Wonder Mandel, has recommended that the NSA Director-General be set aside to facilitate proper investigations into its operations. Mandel delivered the statement during a high-profile press conference today, citing the need for an independent probe into alleged irregularities that have plagued the authority.

The announcement has sent ripples through Ghana’s sports landscape, raising urgent questions about the governance of one of the country’s most influential sports bodies. With the NSA responsible for overseeing major events, national team selection and funding distribution, any disruption could reshape the future of Ghanaian athletics and football.

Mandel emphasised that the minister’s directive is not a dismissal but a measured step to ensure accountability and transparency. Observers believe the timing coincides with growing public frustration over perceived mismanagement in the NSA, particularly in recent months.

While no specific allegations have been named, the call for an investigation has ignited speculation about possible corruption or leadership failures at the helm. The government has not yet commented on the recommendation, leaving the door open for further developments.

As the sports world watches closely, one thing is clear: the stakes are high, and the clock is ticking on the status quo. The NSA’s future may now depend not on performance on the pitch, but on how it responds to the demands of accountability.
