Teacher unions suspend two-week strike after high-stakes meetings [Video]
The two-week industrial action by teacher unions has been suspended following a series of meetings on Friday, October 9, 2026.
The day’s negotiations began with a meeting between the Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment and union representatives, after which the minister expressed optimism that the strike would end before the day’s close.
Following those talks, the Council of State convened a closed-door session with the teachers.
Speaking after the engagement, the Chairman of the Council of State, Edward Doe Adjaho, described the discussions with the three striking unions as highly fruitful.
The union leaders subsequently met with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), where they officially announced the suspension of the two-week strike.
However, leadership issued a strong warning, stating that any failure by the government to honor its commitments would result in an immediate resumption of the industrial action.
