Paul Mashatile returns to work after recovery from illness

Cape Town – Deputy President Paul Mashatile has returned to work after making a full recovery from the illness that kept him away from his official duties.

The Presidency said Mashatile resumed his duties at the beginning of the week and would gradually return to his full political and government programme.

Mashatile thanked South Africans and other stakeholders for their messages of support during his recovery.

β€œYour thoughts, prayers and calls have been greatly appreciated. They have all made a positive impact on the journey towards recovery. For that, I am most grateful,” he said.

His office also thanked members of the media for continuing to follow his recovery and for their inquiries about his health.

Mashatile is expected to have a busy schedule in the coming days.

His programme includes chairing Cabinet committees, attending the Mid-Term Budget Policy Statement and engaging with interfaith communities.

He is also expected to respond to oral questions in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) and resume his political programme.

The Deputy President’s return comes after a period away from his official duties while he recovered.

His office said it appreciated the support and goodwill shown to him during that period.
