Image shows an SAPS bakkie with no wheels as two officers stand beside it

The image shows an SAPS bakkie stripped of its wheels, with two police officers appearing visibly shocked by the damage. The post presents the incident as an example of car thieves or hijackers being so brazen that they will target even a police vehicle, although the circumstances and location of the vehicle being stripped could not be independently verified. SAPS has documented the persistent problem of vehicle hijacking and theft in South Africa, including cases involving police vehicles.

What the post does not settle is where the bakkie was parked when it was stripped, since the image does not show the location or identify the police station it belongs to. The post also does not say when the photograph was taken or whether anyone was arrested. Those details matter because they would establish how the theft took place. Without them, the image shows only the stripped vehicle and the officers’ reaction.

Some viewers defended the officers, saying they were clearly shocked by the damage and that the theft showed how brazen criminals had become. Others said the incident raised questions about where the vehicle had been left and why it was not better secured. The reaction focused on the theft itself rather than on confirmed facts about the circumstances.

One point still unclear is whether a case has been opened over the theft or whether the wheels have been recovered. No reliable report confirming this specific photograph or establishing exactly how the bakkie lost its wheels could be found. The public is waiting for more information, because the image alone cannot establish what happened to the vehicle.
